Closing Confetti This Lifestyle Boutique in San Pablo, CA: Making Room for What Was Meant to Grow

A Note From the Founder

This is a story of intention—not loss.

Confetti This Lifestyle Boutique in San Pablo, California, is closing its doors, not because it failed, and not because it couldn’t survive—but because it could not fully become what it was always meant to be.

This decision was rooted in vision, not finances. It came from clarity, not defeat. As the founder, I reached a point where I had to be honest with myself: the space we occupied could no longer hold the evolution of Confetti This. I wasn’t willing to shrink the dream to fit the walls. Instead, I chose to release the space and protect the vision.

How Confetti This Began

Confetti This began as a celebration of creativity, joy, and self-expression. It started small—home-based, heart-led, and fueled by the desire to create something meaningful for people who often don’t see themselves centered in lifestyle and creative spaces.

Opening a physical boutique in San Pablo was a bold step. It represented growth, belief, and visibility. In a community with very few Black-owned businesses, Confetti This stood as proof that we belong, that our ideas matter, and that we can build spaces rooted in warmth, color, and connection.

From the beginning, Confetti This was never just about retail. It was about experience. About how people felt when they walked through the door.

The Reality of Owning a Brick-and-Mortar Business

Owning a brick-and-mortar business teaches you quickly that vision and logistics don’t always move at the same pace. While a storefront provides presence and connection, it also comes with fixed structures—leases, layouts, zoning, and limitations—that can either support growth or restrict it.

As Confetti This grew, so did the idea of what the space needed to offer. I envisioned more than shopping. I envisioned gathering, lingering, sipping, creating, and resting. A café-style lounge. A place where community could slow down and feel held.

But the existing space simply could not transform into that experience.

The Impact of COVID and the Shifting Retail Landscape

COVID didn’t just change how we shop—it changed how we connect. People began craving experiences, comfort, and community more than products alone. Retail became about how a space feels, not just what it sells.

The pandemic gave me time—forced time—to observe, reflect, and listen. It highlighted the importance of flexibility and purpose. While Confetti This continued to be loved and supported, it became clear that the future of the brand required a different kind of environment—one that blended lifestyle, creativity, and hospitality.

The shift wasn’t about surviving—it was about aligning.

Grief, Guilt, and Growth

Even when a decision is right, it can still be heavy.

There was grief in closing a chapter that held so many memories. There was guilt in knowing how deeply people loved the space. And there was growth in trusting myself enough to choose the long view.

I learned that endings don’t always come from failure. Sometimes they come from wisdom.

Gratitude for the Community

To every person who walked through the doors of Confetti This in San Pablo—thank you.

Thank you for supporting a Black woman-owned business. Thank you for believing in the vision. Thank you for showing up, sharing encouragement, and helping shape what Confetti This became.

This community didn’t just shop here—you co-created this space.

What Confetti This Taught Me

Confetti This taught me:

  • Vision must be protected, even when it means walking away

  • Growth requires space—physical, emotional, and creative

  • Alignment matters more than comfort

  • Community is built through intention, not square footage

  • Letting go can be an act of leadership

This chapter strengthened my confidence as a founder and deepened my commitment to building spaces that truly serve people.

A New Beginning in New Locations

While the San Pablo boutique is closing, Confetti This is very much alive.

We are actively working toward opening two new Confetti This locations in late 2026—one in Alameda and one in San Francisco. These future spaces are being designed from the ground up to support the café/lounge concept that Confetti This has grown into—spaces centered on comfort, creativity, connection, and community.

These locations will reflect everything we’ve learned and everything we’re becoming.

If Confetti This has ever inspired you, supported you, or made you feel seen, I invite you to stay connected.

This isn’t goodbye—it’s preparation.

Thank you for trusting the vision.

With gratitude,

Founder, Confetti This
